Cereals are an excellent source of fibers, protein and carbohydrates. They also contain starch, cellulose, essential amino acids, vitamins( especially B and E), minerals( potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron) and in small quantities fats.

The calcium contained in cereals stimulates the secretion of hormones and the proper functioning of the bone, nervous, respiratory and reproductive systems.

Dietary fibers reduce cholesterol and help the digestive system function well. Fibers absorb and help you eliminate toxins. Also fibers reduce the risk of getting any cardiovascular disease.

Eaten with milk or other milk base products, cereals prevent the apparition of osteoporosis by giving the body one third of its daily needs of healthy calcium.

For all the above reasons it is good for whole wheat bread and cereals to have a secure spot on your dietary food list. Cereals should be placed on the same spot with fruits and vegetables which should be the your main source of nourishment during the day. With the help of cereals you can prevent asthenia, back and joints pains, colds and some digestive diseases.

You can eat then:

  • -as they are: wheat, barley, oat, rye, millet, buckwheat, linseed, chick pea, rice, peas, lentil, sesame, pearl barley, mustard seeds, sunflower seeds.
  • -whole meal flour: wheat, barley, oat, rye, soya, rice, millet.
  • -cornflakes or oatmeal made out of a combination of the above mentioned cereals plus dried fruits for a more delicious meal. Also there are other products found in the marketplace that are based on cereals and are healthy for you. Just use your better judgement when buying them.
