What is the weight loss plateau?

Health & Motivation

The weight loss plateau is a period of weight loss stagnation that usually occurs in many weight loss plans. You have to learn to deal with it and not get demoralized by it.

The weight loss plateau usually happens when your body alarm systems get triggered. You see your body has protection mechanisms in check that run at a subconscious level automatically. If you lose weight too fast then your body goes into full alert and starts pulling all its resources to make sure that every ounce of energy is saved. Even if you eat less than you used to eat you still won’t lose weight. If you workout more than before it might still not be enough to get you past the weight loss plateau.

You have to work on your subconscious mind and prepare it for what you are trying to achieve. Make your body understand that there is no famine going on because of environmental changes. Sometimes you will have to fines your way past your own survival mechanisms without triggering them. Just like a cat-burglar that is stealing a priceless object from an airtight secure facility.

Time is also your ally in surpassing the weight loss plateau. Keep doing what you are doing to lose weight. Pretty soon your body will get the message and will understand what is going on. But please keep a healthy weight loss diet and exercise if you want to lose weight. By using an extreme weight loss diet you only ensure that your body will try to recuperate the lost weight starting with the celebration slice of cake you will eat at the end of the apparently successful weight loss program. And the bad news is still to come: your body will gain even more weight than you lost and slow down your metabolism to make sure you don’t lose it again that fast. That’s really bad for you and your health.
